If you’ve never cooked turkey bacon in the oven you’re missing out because it’s so dang easy!
There’s no having to cook in batches if your pan isn’t big enough, no splatters on your stovetop and minimal clean up… just add all your turkey bacon to one parchment-lined baking sheet and cook for 15-20 minutes until nice and crispy! How easy is that?!
Why You Should Cook Turkey Bacon in the Oven
- Less mess โ Cooking the turkey bacon in the oven means no grease splatters all over the stove top and no skillet to clean for easy cleanup!
- Perfectly cooked โ Achieve evenly cooked, perfectly crispy, not shriveled up turkey bacon every single time!
- Great for feeding a crowd โ It’s the best method for cooking turkey bacon especially when feeding a crowd as you can cook a full package at once. No having to cook in batches! Plus, you can pretty much leave the turkey bacon unattended to while preparing the rest of brunch.
Ingredients Needed
You only need ONE ingredient for this recipe… turkey bacon! I suggest buying a nitrate free uncured bacon, but you can use your favorite brand of turkey bacon. My go-to is Wellshire Farms Organic Sugar Free Turkey Bacon, but I also like Boarโs Head Uncured Turkey Bacon and Applegate Natural Hickory Smoked Uncured Turkey Bacon.
How to Make Oven-Baked Turkey Bacon
This recipe couldn’t be any easier! Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Lay the turkey bacon pieces on the baking sheet in a single layer. You might have to use two pans depending on the size of your turkey bacon package.
Bake for 10 minutes, flip the slices, and bake for another 5-10 minutes until it reaches your desired level of crispness. Remove the turkey bacon from the oven and transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to blot up any excess bacon grease.
Brittany’s Tips!
- Make sure you’re using a rimmed baking sheet otherwise you’ll have a mess on your hands.
- Don’t overlap the slices on the baking sheet otherwise they might cook unevenly. Use two pans if needed!
- Oven temperatures can vary and turkey bacon brands can also vary in the cook time, so start checking the bacon after the first 10 minutes and keep a close eye on it. This will help you avoid overcooking, making sure the turkey bacon reaches your desired level of crispiness.
How to Serve Turkey Bacon
Of course, you could snack on this turkey bacon straight out of the oven, but it’s also a super easy side for brunch or can be added to a variety of recipes. Here are a few ideas:
- As a side for breakfast/brunch: Serve this turkey bacon alongside a bowl of oatmeal, an egg white omelette or this cottage cheese scrambled eggs recipe for a full breakfast. If you’re hosting brunch for a crowd serve this turkey bacon alongside this dairy-free spinach quiche, cinnamon rolls and a fruit salad.
- In an egg dish: Add the cooked turkey bacon to this breakfast casserole or egg white quiche for a protein-packed breakfast that’s great for meal prep.
- In sandwiches: Use it in a BLT, breakfast sandwich, breakfast wrap or as a crispy addition to burgers (it would be tasty with this turkey burger or chicken burger).
- In salads: You can add the cooked turkey bacon to really any salad for some protein and crunch, but it would be especially delicious in this broccoli salad, blackened Cobb salad, chicken avocado club mason jar salad or protein cobb salad.
How to Store Turkey Bacon
Turkey bacon is best enjoyed fresh on the day you cook it, but if you have leftovers you can easily store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
For longer storage, you can store the cooked turkey bacon in a freezer-safe bag or container in the freezer for up to 1 month. You’ll want to thaw the bacon in the fridge before reheating.
To reheat and restore its crispness, reheat the bacon in the oven at 350ยฐF for about 8-10 minutes or in a skillet over medium heat for a few minutes on each side.
FAQs
I’ve found that 15-20 minutes at 400 degrees results in perfectly cooked and crispy turkey bacon! Of course, the cook time will depend on your oven and the brand of turkey bacon as some might be cut thinner or thicker than others. Just keep an eye on your turkey bacon as it cooks!
Flipping the turkey bacon helps it cook evenly and becomes crispy on both sides, but if your oven circulates heat well, you can skip flipping. You’ll just likely have a slightly less crispy bacon, but it’ll still be cooked.
