This banana bark features layers of banana slices, peanut butter and chocolate all topped with flaky sea salt. It’s the perfect tasty treat to keep in the freezer!
Bark recipes are all the rage on TikTok and Instagram right now and as soon as I saw the viral chocolate banana bark by Chanel Eats Gluten Free I knew I needed to try it.
Peanut butter and chocolate is my ultimate dessert combo and the addition of bananas just seals the deal!

The bark features a base of frozen bananas slices, a layer of peanut butter and then a final layer of chocolate. Frozen bananas end up tasting like ice cream and this treat reminds me of a Snicker’s ice cream bar.
It’s honestly similar to to my chocolate peanut butter banana bites, but it’s a bit easier to make because you don’t have to manage adding a tiny amount of peanut butter between slippery banana slices or mess with dipping each bite in the chocolate!
Overall, this viral recipe is a 10/10 for me. I will definitely be making it again.
Ingredients Needed
- bananas
- peanut butter – this is a key ingredient to get that peanut butter chocolate flavor combo.
- chocolate chips – I recommend using Lily’s dark chocolate chips. These particular chocolate chips will keep the bites lower in sugar and increase the fiber content.
- coconut oil – this is just to thin the chocolate mixture so it’s easier to spread over the peanut butter layer.
- flaky sea salt – this is just for topping and it’s totally optional, but I love a little flaky sea salt on my chocolate desserts.
How to Store
This banana bark should be stored in an air-tight container in the freezer. The bananas won’t turn brown and it should stay good for a month, but I doubt it will last that long because it’s so tasty you’ll likely eat it in a couple of days.

Chocolate Banana Bark
Ingredients
- 2 small bananas, sliced
- ยผ cup natural peanut butter
- ยฝ cup chocolate chips, I used Lily's dark chocolate chips
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper. Add banana slices to the parchment in rows to make a rectangle shape. You want to make sure all your banana slices are touching.
- Use a spoon to spread peanut butter over the banana slices to make a peanut butter layer. Pop the baking sheet into the freezer for about 20 minutes to let the bananas and peanut butter harden a bit.
- Place chocolate chips and the coconut oil into a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between each. It shouldn't take longer than 1-2 minutes total.
- Drizzle melted chocolate over top of the peanut butter and use a spoon or spread the chocolate into a thin layer. Sprinkle on the flaky sea salt and place back in the freezer until chocolate has set, about 20 minutes or so.
- Remove from the freezer, break or cut into pieces and enjoy! Store any leftover bark in the freezer for up to a month.

So so so good! A little tip (I saw someone on IG do this)โฆafter you layer the bananas on the parchment paper, take another piece of parchment paper and put it on top of the bananas. Then, take a glass and lightly smash the bananas. This will form more of a sheet of banana and minimize gaps, it also helps the pb spread easier.
I didnโt freeze the bananas and pb before adding the melted chocolate. It worked just fine for me that way and took less time!
Thanks for sharing, Andrea! That’s a great tip. I’m glad you enjoyed this recipe. Thanks for making it and for coming back to leave a review. I appreciate it!
Thank you Andrea! That makes perfect sense!
I followed this recipe exactly, but the bark was too gooey at the base from the banana, despite it having been in the freezer as directed!
You’d have to eat it frozen for the bananas to stop being watery/gooey! We had to eat the lot in a bowl as a desert with icecream!!!
Oh no! Did you let it thaw before eating it? How ripe were your bananas? Sounds like they were a little soft, these are meant to be enjoyed frozen.
I donโt have parchment/wax paper.. could plastic wrap be okay? Or will it be safe to freeze without on just the nonstick tray?
Plastic wrap will be really tough to work with and I think it will get really stick if you just put it on your tray. The parchment paper helps to remove is smoothly after it is frozen.
Super yummy and simple recipe ! My husband and toddler loved it ! โค๏ธ Thanks so much for sharing

how do you spread the peanut butter on top of the bananas without the bananas moving all over the place?
thx
You might want to freeze the bananas for a little before, but I didn’t have any issues spreading creamy natural PB over the bananas. Hope you enjoy this recipe!
Buying bananas tomorrow for this! Big time!
WOO! Cannot wait for you to try this one!
This was delicious, but I couldnโt figure out how to spread the almond butter or peanut butter evenly on the bananas? It wouldnโt spread for me so I had clumps
Glad you loved this recipe, Diane! You could pop it in the microwave to melt it a little bit more if it isn’t super creamy. Hope that helps. Thanks for your review + star rating, I really appreciate it!

How much would be considered for – serving?
Hi Vicki – You’ll want to break the bark into 8 pieces. 1 piece is a serving. Enjoy!
do you store this in the freezer afterwards?
Good question and yes, you should store it in the freezer!
Can this be made with PB2?
You would have to liquify it, but I am sure it would work!
